We’ve all heard about the importance of having the right company; by company, I mean people, friends, and loved ones around you. Not all companies are good, and not all are a blessing. You have to intentionally disconnect from people whose influence in your life subtracts from you instead of adding to your growth. You must discover and connect to people whose presence in your life adds to you and multiplies your efforts and development. A bad company will always corrupt good character, while a good company will enhance good character. This is a well-known principle in life. However, I won’t dwell on this. There is a dimension of this topic that I want to show you.
The Bible emphasizes the importance of having the right company in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NLT):
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
Wow! This scripture is mind-blowing! Did you catch any revelation from it? If not, go back and read it slowly this time. I love verse 12; it says two can stand back to back and conquer, meaning it’s dangerous for you to be alone. You practically have no covering. You have your face in the front and not at the back. Your company watches your back. Your company sees things you are not seeing. The right company sees where God is taking you tomorrow and builds you. They stands with you in all seasons of life. The right company confronts you when you begin to veer off from the right path—the right people minister encouragement and comfort to you. I have significantly benefited from the right company. My question to you is, who is watching your back?
Peter was another man who was blessed with great company. When the enemy came to sift him, Jesus saw it afar off and prayed for him. He said to Peter, when thou art restored, strengthen your brethren. Jesus’ prayer went ahead of Peter to create restoration for Peter even before he got there. Peter could stand again because he was connected to the right company that prayed for him. Can you think of countless believers who have fallen and did not get back up because they had no company or had the wrong people around them?
In Acts 12, when Peter was imprisoned, prayer was made without ceasing on his behalf by the church (his company). Miraculously, he was freed from prison. He benefited again by being with the right group of people. One of your greatest assets in destiny is to have a network of praying friends. You will not always be strong. Life happens even to the best of us. It is the company that you have that will lift you and cover you in destiny. It is the company that you have that will stay on your case in prayer until your righteousness shines like the dawn, and your salvation blazes like a burning torch (Isaiah 62:1). Don’t run a pity party or a gossip company. Surround yourself with like-minded covenant friends.
Do you have the right company in your life? Do you have men and women who you can agree with in prayer?
If you don’t, please prayerfully get one! On the day of trouble, may you not be alone in Jesus’ name! Amen.
