WATCHMEN ON THE WALL

April 11, 2024

There are spiritual walls surrounding every individual, family, business, institution, church, society, nation, region, etc. You may not see it with your physical eyes, but they exist. The Bible talked about our walls being before God in Isaiah 49:16b. Zecharaiah 2:5 talks about God being a wall of fire around Jerusalem. Ecclesiastes 10:8 talks about breaking a hedge; some translations use the word wall instead of hedge. It is commonplace in Biblical times for cities to be fenced with high walls and city gates. Before an enemy launches an attack on that city or town, they would have to break through the walls by pulling them down or building siege towers to access the inside of the city. These walls are spiritual landmarks and positions of influence. Watchmen on the wall are intercessors; God’s special instrument for enforcing His will and advancing His agenda on the earth.

God has men stationed on the walls of nations, individuals, families, churches, etc. These men and women partner with God to establish his counsel in that region, country, and family via the importunity of their prayers. The problem of our generation is that we lack men and women on the walls; we cannot discern that God has given us the assignment of being watchmen on the wall. God is not just looking for men who will hasten to the wall to salvage impending destruction (Nahum 2:5). God is looking for men and women who will live on the wall. In Joshua 2:15, The Bible tells us of a woman who lived on the wall. Her name is Rahab. She was a woman who lived on the wall of her city and the wall of her family. She was able to save and deliver her family from being destroyed.

Isaiah 62:6-7:

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed and stationed watchmen (prophets),

Who will never keep silent day or night;

You who profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves,

And give Him no rest [from your prayers] until He establishes Jerusalem

And makes her a praise on the earth.

Destructions are only sudden in the realm of the physical. They are not sudden in the spirit. There is a conversation/ counsel that precedes any destruction. The advantage of having men on the wall is that they are privy to those secret conversations in the spirit realm. Rahab was able to negotiate with spies before the destruction manifested. Abraham was also privileged to have a secret conversation with God. He knew what Lot did not know and was able to negotiate for the deliverance of Lot and his family. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah didn’t just happen. There were ongoing secret conversations that could only be revealed to men stationed on the walls of the affected regions and individuals.

The secret to knowing God’s plan, agenda, and secrets over a person, family, or church is consistently standing in the gap and laboring over them in prayer. When you stand in the gap for them, you become God’s contact person over those people. You will be alerted before any destruction comes upon that territory. Pa Kenneth Hagin, in one of his books, said he had prayed nearly every one of his extended family members (when they were much younger) out of death at one point or the other. He said that no trouble or crisis would happen to any of his family members without the Holy Spirit alerting him to pray ahead of time. Imagine receiving spiritual alerts from the Holy Ghost about situations so you can pray beforehand, just like you get alerts on your phone. That is the life of a true watchman. That’s the life God is calling you into.

It is God’s responsibility to you as a watchman to show you and reveal secrets to you (Amos 3:7-8, Ezek 3:17). You cannot expect God to show you secrets over your family if you are not laboring or standing in the gap over that family. It is God’s desire and his will that more men will rise and become watchmen the wall over their families and nations. God wants to recruit more believers who will appear in meetings, gatherings, and counsels of the sons of God in heaven and hear and see things before they happen.

This is a season where we have to do away with reactionary Christianity. Reactionary or defensive Christians hasten to the wall when conversations have already been concluded and destruction is imminent. I pray that we will become Christians living on the wall daily, watching, praying, and enforcing God’s counsel over our families, churches, communities, and nation. It’s time to enlist and become God’s watchmen on the wall.
